SerDes Verification Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
SerDes Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Verify and validate high-speed SerDes interfaces for SoCs and chiplet designs. Build and run UVM/SystemVerilog testbenches, perform simulations, analyze signal integrity and performance metrics, debug timing and protocol issues, and work with design and hardware teams to ensure protocol compliance and reliable silicon.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify explicit years of experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute verification plans and testbenches for SerDes IP and subsystems.
- Write and run UVM/SystemVerilog testbenches and simulation environments; perform simulations and analyze results.
- Debug timing, protocol, and performance issues across RTL, timing, and hardware domains.
- Evaluate signal integrity and performance metrics such as jitter, BER, and eye diagrams.
- Perform protocol compliance testing for interfaces (e.g., UCIe, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, DDR, DisplayPort, or custom protocols).
- Develop automated regression tests and verification infrastructure for continuous validation.
- Collaborate closely with design, hardware, and software teams to triage issues and verify fixes.
- Document verification results, test scenarios, and issues; provide feedback to improve design and verification processes.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills. Degree requirements are listed separately below.
- Must-have: Practical experience in SerDes or high-speed communication verification.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with verification methodologies and tools such as UVM and SystemVerilog.
- Must-have: Strong simulation and debugging skills for timing, protocol, and performance issues.
- Must-have: Experience analyzing signal integrity issues, jitter, BER, and eye diagrams.
- Must-have: Familiarity with hardware description languages (Verilog or VHDL) and scripting for automation (Python, Perl, or similar).
- Must-have: Knowledge of high-speed serial protocols (UCIe, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, DDR) and SerDes architectures (link training, equalization).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with formal verification, writing properties/assertions, or formal tools.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with DDR controller IP verification and high-speed memory interface design.
- Nice-to-have: Prior exposure to chiplet protocols such as UCIe.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
