Job Title

SerDes RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design RTL for high-speed SerDes PHYs and related digital blocks, working with system link architects, physical design, and validation teams through pre-tapeout sign-off and silicon bring-up.

Position sits on a hybrid team based in San Jose, CA; responsibilities span micro-architecture, RTL implementation, verification, and PPA analysis.

Experience Level

Mid-level (typical 3–7 years of relevant ASIC/PHY design and verification experience).

Responsibilities

The engineer will implement and verify digital RTL for SerDes PHYs and collaborate across design, verification, and physical teams.

  • Micro-architect high-speed SerDes PHY designs with system link architects.
  • RTL design of digital blocks including calibration loops and DSP functions.
  • Behavioral modeling using Verilog/SystemVerilog.
  • Apply low-power design techniques and conduct PPA (performance, power, area) analysis.
  • Develop and run block-level testbenches for functional verification and debug.
  • Use design checker tools (LINT, CDC, RDC) and participate in synthesis flow and static timing analysis.
  • Collaborate with physical design and validation teams for pre-tapeout sign-off and silicon bring-up.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.

  • Proficient in RTL coding with Verilog/SystemVerilog and strong logic design skills.
  • Experience in micro-architecture and producing design specifications.
  • Familiarity with synthesis flows and static timing analysis.
  • Experience with design checker and functional verification tools.
  • Knowledge of low-power design methodologies and multi-clock-domain designs.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Perl, or TCL) for automation and verification tasks.
  • Background in mixed-signal design.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with SerDes PHY implementations and high-speed I/O protocols.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (as stated in the source).
