SerDes Application Engineer
Role Summary
The SerDes Application Engineer owns technical support and validation for high-speed serial IO interfaces on Broadcom Core Switching Group products. The role supports architecture review, lab replication of field issues, customer escalations, and cross-functional debugging for Ethernet and PCIe SerDes interfaces used in data center and service provider environments.
Annual base salary range USD 121,900 to USD 195,000.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting requests 8+ years of experience working with high-speed SerDes and analog IP.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical ownership and customer-facing support for SerDes interfaces.
- Provide expert-level technical support for high-speed serial IO interfaces to customers and field teams.
- Replicate and troubleshoot field issues in the lab using reference designs and test equipment.
- Debug hardware and software (driver) issues related to SerDes, MAC, PCS, and PMD datapaths.
- Support architecture and low-level hardware questions; work with engineering, software, architecture, and marketing teams.
- Perform customer demos and presentations; develop and maintain technical documentation and collateral.
- Use script-based test automation to characterize and validate interfaces.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 8+ years of experience working with high-speed SerDes and analog IP.
- Proven hands-on experience with high-speed debug and characterization.
- Strong debug and problem-solving skills for hardware and firmware-level issues.
- Experience with script-based test automation and strong scripting/programming skills.
- Deep understanding of channel loss, jitter, and typical impairments in high-speed serial IO designs.
Preferred / nice-to-have:
- Experience with PCIe, including Gen6.
- Experience with 100/200 Gbps per-lane Ethernet interfaces.
- Hands-on debug experience with high-speed oscilloscopes and BERTs.
- Experience in test and screening methodology for high-speed interfaces and prior field support of Ethernet or PCIe interfaces.
Education Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related degree (listed as B.S./M.S. Electrical/Computer Engineering or similar degrees in the posting).
