Job Title

Sensing & Imaging FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA solutions for imaging and sensing hardware used across Apple products. Work with early-stage hardware systems that integrate cameras and non-vision sensors (IMUs, magnetometers, microphones, ambient light sensors) to enable product features and on-device intelligence.

Collaborate with cross-functional hardware and software teams to define interfaces, verify designs, and bring prototypes to lab validation and product development.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Years of experience not specified.

Responsibilities

Primary technical responsibilities expected for this role include:

  • Develop RTL implementations and FPGA firmware for imaging and sensor data paths.
  • Integrate sensor interfaces and high-speed I/O between FPGA and camera/sensor subsystems.
  • Create and run simulation, verification, and timing-closure flows for FPGA designs.
  • Bring up prototypes in the lab: debugging, performance characterization, and validation with sensors and software.
  • Work with hardware and software engineers to define interfaces, perform system integration, and resolve cross-domain issues.
  • Document designs, test plans, and verification results; participate in design reviews.

Requirements

Required and desirable qualifications for practical success in the role.

  • Must-have: Experience developing FPGA designs (RTL using Verilog or VHDL) and firmware workflows, including simulation and timing analysis.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, lab debugging, logic analyzers, and validating sensor or camera data paths.
  • Must-have: Ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams (hardware, firmware, software) and communicate technical trade-offs.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with image-sensor interfaces (for example MIPI/CSI), high-speed serial interfaces, ADC/DAC or sensor readout chains.
  • Nice-to-have: Scripting for automation and test (e.g., Python), experience with FPGA toolchains and IP integration.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
