Senior VLSI CAD Software Engineer

Role Summary

Join a small engineering team building custom, high-impact VLSI CAD software used for chip design and visualization. The role covers full lifecycle development: architecture, implementation, testing, and support of performance-sensitive desktop engineering tools.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, test, and support high-capacity, high-performance VLSI design and visualization tools. Collaborate with internal engineering teams to define requirements and deliver production-quality software.

  • Design, develop, review, and test algorithms and models for physical VLSI design automation.
  • Write well-designed, high-quality code for desktop engineering applications.
  • Participate in agile development practices and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with global engineering customers to gather requirements and iterate on tools.
  • Support and maintain production tools, including performance tuning and debugging.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and experience.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in CAD/EDA tool development.
  • Strong expertise in CAD data structures and algorithms for physical VLSI design automation.
  • Expert-level programming in C++, Java, or C# (modern language features such as C++20/Java 21 preferred).
  • Proficiency with modern development tools: git, IDEs (IDEA/Visual Studio/CLion), unit test frameworks, and CI/CD.
  • Experience in software system architecture and object-oriented design.
  • Experience using AI-based code assistant tools.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project scope and collaborate across teams.

Education Requirements

MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. (The posting lists MS CS/CPE or BS CS/CPE or equivalent experience.)

Additional qualifications that strengthen a candidate's fit.

  • Experience designing and coding large-scale design automation tools.
