Senior VLSI CAD Software Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and maintain high-capacity, high-performance VLSI CAD and visualization tools used in chip design. Work on full development cycle including architecture, design, implementation, testing, and support within a small engineering team at NVIDIA.
The role involves close collaboration with internal engineering customers worldwide and participation in an Agile development process that leverages modern tooling and AI-assisted workflows.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 10 years of experience in CAD/EDA tool development as specified in the posting.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, and support of production CAD software and tools.
- Design, develop, review, test, and support chip design and visualization tools across modeling and algorithmic tasks.
- Write robust, well-designed, high-quality code for desktop engineering applications.
- Participate in Agile practices with the development team (planning, code review, CI/CD, unit testing).
- Collaborate with engineering teams globally to gather requirements and define new tools and workflows.
- Contribute to software architecture and system-level design decisions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in CAD/EDA tool development.
- Strong knowledge of CAD data structures and algorithms, especially for physical VLSI design automation.
- Expert-level programming in C++, Java, or C# (experience with modern language standards encouraged).
- Proficiency with modern development platforms and tools (examples: C++20, Java 21, git, IDEs, unit test frameworks, CI/CD).
- Experience in software system architecture and object-oriented design; applied software design principles.
- Ability to adapt to evolving project scope and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using AI-based code assistant tools.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience designing and writing code for large-scale design automation tools.
- Performance analysis and tuning skills.
- Familiarity with at least one physical CAD data model and VLSI chip design concepts.
Education Requirements
MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering β or equivalent practical experience.
