Senior Validation Engineer – High-Speed PCB Design & Signal Integrity (25G+)
SemtechJob Title
Senior Validation Engineer – High-Speed PCB Design & Signal Integrity (25G+)
Role Summary
Design and validate high-speed PCBs and perform signal-integrity characterisation of Semtech devices at 25Gbit/s and above. Work with the Signal Integrity Products group in Stansted to take evaluation boards from schematic and stack-up definition through layout, bring-up and measurement.
The role combines PCB layout, lab debugging, automated test development and reporting; results will directly influence product release decisions.
Experience Level
Senior-level engineer. The posting specifies a senior role; years of experience not stated.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include board design, lab characterisation and cross-team collaboration.
- Design validation PCBs from schematic capture, stack-up definition and controlled-impedance strategy through layout and release using Cadence Allegro.
- Apply high-speed and RF design practices for boards operating at 25Gbit/s and above (material selection, stack-ups, impedance control, signal integrity).
- Bring up, debug and characterise RF and data communications PCBs in the lab; perform benchtop characterisation of new silicon.
- Prepare clear, accurate validation reports and present findings in validation reviews.
- Select and specify lab equipment required for product validation.
- Develop test automation (Python or similar) to speed and standardise measurements.
- Collaborate with designers, product, test and applications engineers; support new product design meetings and validation planning.
Requirements
Must-have practical skills, plus preferred skills listed separately.
- Strong hands-on Cadence Allegro experience for schematic capture and layout.
- Proven high-speed PCB design experience: stack-ups, materials, controlled impedance and signal integrity.
- Experience designing and debugging RF and data communications PCBs and performing lab measurements.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced R&D environment; strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving.
- Good communication and teamwork skills; self-motivated and able to learn new tools independently.
Nice-to-have:
- PCB signal-integrity simulation experience.
- Python or similar test automation experience.
- Experience testing optical components, ICs or modules and lab measurement at 25Gbit/s+.
- Data analysis and presentation skills for complex measurement results.
Education Requirements
BSc or MSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (EEE/ECE) is stated as the preferred qualification; HNC/HND with equivalent practical experience is accepted. The posting explicitly allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree.
