Job Title

Senior Validation and Qualification Engineer

Role Summary

Senior engineer in the Validation and Qualification group based in Roskilde, Denmark, responsible for qualifying optical interconnect products within the LinkX portfolio (passive/active copper cables, optical transceivers, and emerging silicon photonics).

Lead qualification planning, execute optical test programs, manage lab infrastructure, and coordinate cross-functional stakeholders to ensure product readiness and risk mitigation.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 5+ years of experience in electro-optics or optical systems validation and qualification.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining and executing qualification strategies, running optical tests, and coordinating stakeholders to deliver qualified products.

  • Define qualification plans and test scopes for ECRs, new product introductions, and build changes.
  • Lead qualification kick-offs and report status, scope, and risks to engineering and program management.
  • Collaborate with HW, ASIC, package, mechanical, process, reliability, product engineering, and CM partners to align technical requirements.
  • Review test data and qualification reports; analyze optical parameters (RX/TX power, OMA, ER, eye diagrams, BER, OSNR, wavelength, insertion loss, return loss) and flag risks.
  • Build and expand optical lab stations: select equipment (VOA, OSA, optical power meters, fibers, cleaning tools, chillers) and set up production-ready stations.
  • Serve as the optics point-of-contact for validation activities; lead root-cause investigations and coordinate communications among R&D, product engineering, CM, and reliability teams.
  • Manage multiple parallel qualifications and shifting priorities while maintaining technical rigor and schedules.

Requirements

Essential technical skills and experience required; nice-to-have items follow.

  • 5+ years experience in electro-optics module validation, optical system engineering, or optical parameter analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of high-speed optical transceivers, silicon photonics, and optical link performance (modulation formats, link budget, BER/eye analysis).
  • Multidisciplinary understanding across ASIC/package, electronics, mechanical, process, and optics domains to develop qualification strategies.
  • Proven experience defining qualification or test plans for product changes (ECR, NPI, second source, build change) and reviewing resulting data and reports.
  • Hands-on experience with optical lab instruments and the ability to assemble, troubleshoot, and validate setups (VOA, Spectrum Analyzer, VNA, optical power meters).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to present clear technical conclusions and guide data-driven decisions.
  • Data analysis and scripting skills (Python, JMP, or similar) for large-scale optical parameter data review.
  • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with silicon photonics-based transceivers or co-packaged optics (CPO).
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with industry specifications (OSFP MSA, GR-468, GR-326, GR-1435).
  • Nice-to-have: background in qualification, reliability, or system validation of optical or interconnect products at network equipment or optical transceiver companies.

Education Requirements

M.Sc. in Electro-Optics or Physics, B.Sc. in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
