Job Title

Senior Test Engineer

Role Summary

Join Microsoft SCHIE's Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering (CSME) team to support manufacturing readiness, test, and yield for cloud compute chips. The role focuses on scan (structural) test, ATE test program development, silicon bring-up, and cross‑functional problem solving to enable high-volume, high-quality hardware delivery.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role expects experienced test/product engineers; specific minimum experience is detailed under Education Requirements (degree plus years, or equivalent experience).

Responsibilities

Deliver test engineering activities across pre-silicon, first-silicon bring-up, and manufacturing to ensure test coverage, quality, and yield.

  • Develop and execute ATE test programs for scan/structural test, including pattern integration, bring-up, and validation.
  • Support silicon bring-up, characterization, post-silicon debug, and yield analysis.
  • Apply Design-for-Test (DFT) and ATPG knowledge to close coverage gaps and implement effective screening.
  • Use scan diagnosis tools to locate failures and drive corrective actions with design and manufacturing teams.
  • Collaborate with design, DFT, product, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and prepare parts for volume manufacturing.
  • Execute defined test plans, record technical data, and escalate risks with clear evidence.
  • Support simulation/emulation and pattern verification for scan test validation.

Requirements

Summarized below are the primary must-haves and useful additions for a successful candidate. Degree and formal experience thresholds are listed under Education Requirements.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with scan/ATPG methodologies, pattern generation/validation, and ATE test program development and debug.
  • Must-have: Practical experience with silicon bring-up, characterization, failure diagnosis, and yield improvement.
  • Must-have: Working knowledge of DFT concepts (scan architecture, JTAG/boundary scan, fault models) and test flows for logic defects.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with Linux-based environments and debugging test programs or validation flows.
  • Must-have: Ability to communicate technical data clearly and collaborate in cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Must-have: Ability to meet Microsoft security and export-control screening requirements (see Education Requirements for details).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with complex SoCs, high-performance or AI designs, advanced-node process flows, mixed-signal IP test interaction, and familiarity with ATE platforms (e.g., Advantest 93K).
  • Nice-to-have: Background in probability/statistics, DOE basics, basic device physics, and computer architecture.

Education Requirements

Required: One of the following or equivalent practical experience—Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field plus 1+ years technical engineering experience; OR Master’s degree in those fields plus 4+ years; OR Bachelor’s degree in those fields plus 5+ years; OR equivalent experience. Candidates must be able to satisfy export-control eligibility checks; as a condition of employment Microsoft will verify citizenship or lawful residency (passport or other approved documents) for assessment of access to export-controlled information.
