Senior Technical Staff Engineer - Hardware
Role Summary
Lead hardware system architecture and implementation for Microchip's Frequency and Time Systems team in Beverly, MA. Own designs from first schematic through validation and production, mentor engineers, and coordinate across firmware, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to deliver fielded timing products.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects 10+ years of experience leading hardware or embedded system design and shipping products to market.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, system architecture, validation, and cross-functional delivery.
- Lead architecture, design, and implementation of complex hardware: embedded controllers, analog/digital circuits, data converters, and RF/microwave subsystems.
- Set technical direction and mentor engineers across the team.
- Define and own validation strategy: test plans, debug, and root-cause analysis through to production.
- Partner with firmware, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to meet product requirements and schedules.
- Review and approve schematics, PCB layouts, and design documentation.
- Ensure designs meet applicable industry, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Work directly with customers to define requirements and resolve complex technical issues.
- Improve design methods, tools, and processes to raise engineering quality and efficiency.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and other role constraints.
- 10+ years leading hardware or embedded system design, with demonstrable products taken to market.
- Deep experience in analysis, simulation, and implementation of embedded control systems, data converters, RF/microwave circuits, and analog/digital filters.
- Strong written and verbal communication; proven ability to work across disciplines and with leadership.
- Willingness to support validation and production activities and to work with cross-functional teams.
- U.S. export control eligibility required: must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3).
- Able to meet physical requirements: ~70% sitting, ~30% standing, work indoors; occasional lifting up to 15 lbs.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with atomic clocks, precision timing, or positioning/navigation/timing (PNT).
- FPGA/CPLD design experience.
- Experience with RF/microwave system-level design and measurement techniques.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
