Senior Systems Performance Engineer - Modeling
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Senior Systems Performance Engineer - Modeling
Role Summary
Build and validate data-center scale performance and power models for Micron SSD and DRAM products. The role combines software development, lab measurements, and collaboration with architects and system designers to project device behavior under AI training, inference, and large-scale analytics workloads.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 3+ years relevant industry experience with a BS, or 1+ years with an MS/PhD or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver modeling, measurement, and analysis that informs product and system architecture decisions.
- Develop performance and power models for SSDs and DRAM in servers and data-center contexts.
- Implement analysis and tooling in Python, C/C++, or similar languages to process benchmarks, workload traces, and telemetry.
- Test server platforms and perform measurements of throughput, latency, bandwidth, endurance, and power to validate models.
- Analyze AI and data-intensive workloads; compare performance, power, and cost across compute, memory, storage, and interconnect options.
- Document and communicate model assumptions, results, and recommendations; contribute to simulation or emulation efforts as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and domain knowledge.
- Hands-on experience with Linux servers and physical hardware.
- Software development experience for modeling, simulation, data analysis, or automation.
- Experience building or extending performance, power, or analytical models and validating them against measured data.
- Working knowledge of compute, memory, storage, and interconnect systems, including PCIe, DMA, and memory fundamentals.
- Ability to explain technical findings clearly to cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or similar programming languages.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; BS holders typically require 3+ years of relevant industry experience. An MS or PhD (or equivalent practical experience) typically requires 1+ years. Graduate research in systems performance or architecture may count toward experience.
