Job Title
Senior Systems Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop advanced metrology systems with emphasis on mechatronic subsystems and system-level integration, including X-ray–based solutions. Work across mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and service teams to drive products from concept through high-volume manufacturing.
Experience Level
Senior-level. See Education Requirements for degree-specific experience thresholds.
Responsibilities
Accountable for system design, integration, prototyping, and field support of precision metrology equipment.
- Design, prototype, and validate mechatronic subsystems: precision motion stages, actuators, sensors, and control architectures.
- Lead system-level integration of mechanical, electrical, and control systems ensuring reliable hardware–software interaction.
- Develop and optimize motion control: motors (servo/stepper), encoders, feedback loops, PID tuning, and real-time control strategies.
- Perform system modeling, dynamic analysis, error budgeting, and address mechanical stability, vibration, and positioning accuracy.
- Participate in full product lifecycle development for current and next-generation products.
- Create and maintain design reviews, specifications, test plans, and validation documentation.
- Provide technical support, root-cause analysis, and troubleshooting for manufacturing ramps and field issues.
- Collaborate with vendors to qualify motors, sensors, actuators, and precision mechanical components.
- Develop automation and data-analysis tools (e.g., Python) to improve engineering productivity and system insight.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Proven hands-on experience designing and integrating mechatronic systems, including motion control, sensors, actuators, and control electronics.
- Experience with precision mechanical systems: alignment, vibration control, thermal stability, and tolerancing.
- Familiarity with control systems and feedback loops (PID control, servo tuning, system dynamics).
- System-level problem-solving and independent technical decision-making; demonstrated ownership of complex systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis and scripting/programming (Python or equivalent).
- Experience working in cross-functional product development teams and producing manufacturable designs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel globally up to ~20%.
-
Nice-to-have: experience with high-precision motion systems in semiconductor/metrology equipment; X-ray metrology or scattering techniques; experience developing hardware for semiconductor capital equipment.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications tie degree level to required related work experience: Doctorate plus 3 years, Master’s plus 6 years, or Bachelor’s plus 8 years of related work experience. Fields referenced include mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related technical disciplines. No specific certifications required.
