Job Title

Senior System Software Safety Engineer - Halos Core and Robotics Platform

Role Summary

Join the NVIDIA Halos team building a full-stack safety-critical platform for autonomous vehicles, robots, and intelligent machines. The role combines ISO 26262 functional safety engineering with system software development across RTOS, Linux, and hypervisor environments.

You'll work on mixed-criticality stacks, safety analysis, and integration of real-time AI workloads on edge platforms alongside cross-functional engineering teams.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical guidance: 8+ years in system software architecture and development for real-time embedded systems; 4+ years of hands-on ISO 26262 functional safety engineering.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include driving safety lifecycle activities and developing system software for Halos platform components.

  • Own and drive ISO 26262 functional safety lifecycle activities from safety planning to safety analysis for mixed-criticality software stacks.
  • Architect, design, and develop system software across QNX, Linux, and hypervisor-based environments.
  • Use GenAI and AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate debugging, test development, code review, requirements analysis, and documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve complex cross-component issues across the software stack, including safety partitions and accelerators.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership in the team.
  • Collaborate with product, hardware, and verification teams on integration and safety analyses.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; education requirements are listed below.

  • 8+ years in system software architecture and development for real-time embedded systems.
  • 4+ years of direct, hands-on ISO 26262 functional safety engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture and operating system fundamentals.
  • Experience with RTOS (QNX, RT Linux), Linux, hypervisors, virtualization, and safety partitions.
  • Experience developing low-level software for ARM (ARMv8) based SoCs.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted software development tools and workflows.
  • Proven problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills; ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience owning ISO 26262 artifacts (FMEA/DFMEA, CPA), safety-case development, and working with independent assessors.
  • Experience with Ada/SPARK and formal verification; TLA+ modeling experience.
  • Prior work on mixed-criticality systems, accelerators, or real-time AI workloads.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience. (The posting explicitly allows equivalent experience.)
