Job Title

Senior System Software Engineer, SoC Power and Performance - O-RAN Infrastructure

Role Summary

Develop and optimize system software and firmware for SoCs used in O-RAN and cellular infrastructure (Radio Units, Distributed Units, and connecting interfaces). Work across pre-silicon development, silicon bring-up, productization, and deployment with hardware, platform, networking, and cellular-software teams to deliver performance and energy-efficient solutions.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 5+ years of relevant experience in system software, embedded software, firmware, computer architecture, cellular infrastructure, or performance engineering.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include design, optimization, measurement, and validation of system software and platform behavior for RAN infrastructure.

  • Design, develop, test, and optimize system software and firmware for SoCs used in O-RAN and cellular infrastructure.
  • Develop power-management policies and performance optimizations across CPU, GPU, accelerators, memory, interconnect, I/O, and networking subsystems.
  • Analyze representative RU and DU workloads to identify compute, memory, latency, synchronization, and data-movement bottlenecks.
  • Create and maintain performance and power models, measurement tools, benchmarks, and automated test infrastructure for pre- and post-silicon environments.
  • Use simulation, emulation, prototyping, and production silicon to validate architectural and system-level decisions.
  • Evaluate system behavior against O-RAN and cellular-interface requirements (timing, synchronization, latency, throughput, reliability).
  • Influence SoC, platform, and cellular-software architecture based on workload analysis and deployed-system measurements.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; followed by common desirable qualifications.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in system software, embedded software, firmware, computer architecture, cellular infrastructure, or performance engineering.
  • Proven experience developing and debugging software for complex SoCs or embedded platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in C or C++ and proficiency in Python or a comparable scripting language.
  • Deep understanding of computer architecture and hardware-software interaction (multicore systems, memory hierarchies, caches, interconnects, interrupts, MMIO, DMA).
  • Experience with OS internals and Linux kernel development, device drivers, concurrency, virtual memory, and latency-sensitive or real-time programming.
  • Hands-on expertise in performance measurement, workload characterization, data analysis, bottleneck identification, and system optimization.
  • Working knowledge of SoC power-management concepts (DVFS, clock/power gating, thermal management, system-level power budgeting).
  • Strong grasp of cellular infrastructure and radio-access-network architecture; familiarity with interface standards such as 3GPP NR, O-RAN Open Fronthaul, eCPRI, and synchronization/timing technologies.

Nice-to-have:

  • Direct experience with O-RAN RU/DU development or optimization and O-RAN Alliance specifications.
  • Experience with DPDK, accelerated networking, zero-copy data paths, SR-IOV, RDMA, SmartNICs/DPUs, GPUs, or baseband accelerators.
  • Experience building profiling, telemetry, benchmarking, or automated regression tools for power and performance.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
