Senior System Software Engineer - SoC Power

Role Summary

Join NVIDIA's Tegra system software organization to design and implement system-level software and firmware for SoC power management across Automotive, Embedded, and Datacenter platforms. The role focuses on power/performance optimization, debugging complex software stacks, and collaborating with hardware and system teams to deliver efficient, production-quality solutions.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 8+ years of experience developing system-level software and firmware for power optimization in Datacenter, Embedded, or ARM-based systems.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing power management policies, firmware, and validation to achieve targeted performance and energy efficiency.

  • Design and implement power management policies and system software for Tegra Automotive, Embedded, and Datacenter SoCs.
  • Develop firmware focused on reliable power control and optimization.
  • Triage, reproduce, and debug system and application-level software issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional hardware and software teams to define and execute power/performance strategies.
  • Create and execute test plans to validate functionality, performance, and power efficiency.
  • Analyze energy consumption, identify inefficiencies, and implement corrective measures.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items are listed separately.

  • Proven experience building system software and firmware for power and performance optimization on Datacenter, Embedded, or ARM platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and experience with scripting languages such as Python.
  • Deep understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and hardware–software interactions.
  • Experience debugging and tuning complex system software stacks.
  • Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with performance/power measurement and tools development, and using simulation/emulation platforms.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with DVFS, clock and power gating, clock sequencing, binning, power/thermal budgeting, interconnects, memory hierarchy, interrupts, and memory-mapped I/O.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
