Job Title

Senior System Software Engineer – Linux Kernel, Automotive Cybersecurity

Role Summary

The engineer will design, implement, and evaluate cybersecurity solutions for Linux kernel and embedded software on automotive SoC platforms. The role partners with hardware, software, safety, security, and product teams to define security architecture and ensure compliance with automotive cybersecurity standards.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 5+ years of experience in Linux kernel, embedded software, or systems software development.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and review security features and configurations for the Linux kernel, device drivers, middleware, and user-space components on automotive platforms.
  • Perform cybersecurity engineering activities aligned with ISO/SAE 21434 and internal security development processes.
  • Conduct Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA) to identify attack surfaces, assets, trust boundaries, risks, and mitigations for Linux-kernel-based systems.
  • Analyze kernel subsystems (memory management, process isolation, IPC, networking, drivers, filesystems, privilege management) from a security perspective and recommend mitigations.
  • Support security assessments, vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, and remediation planning for platform software.
  • Develop automation and AI-assisted workflows to improve threat modelling, security review efficiency, and compliance tracking.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and skills:

  • 5+ years experience in Linux kernel, embedded, or systems software development (experience noted under Experience Level).
  • Practical experience performing cybersecurity activities aligned with ISO/SAE 21434.
  • Strong proficiency in C and Linux kernel debugging techniques.
  • Deep understanding of Linux kernel architecture: drivers, networking, filesystems, memory management, scheduling, and security subsystems.
  • Familiarity with Linux security technologies: SELinux, AppArmor, secure boot, TPM, TrustZone, process isolation, and system hardening.
  • Experience with ARM-based SoCs and embedded Linux platforms; solid understanding of operating systems and computer architecture.
  • Familiarity with automotive development processes such as ASPICE and ISO 26262.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on experience with threat modelling, TARA, attack surface analysis, and security architecture reviews for embedded systems.
  • Experience with UNECE R155, vulnerability research, CVE analysis, secure code review, or contributions to upstream Linux kernel or open-source security projects.
  • Experience integrating safety and security engineering (HARA/TARA co-engineering).

Education Requirements

B.Tech, M.Tech, or MS in Computer Science, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field.
