Senior System Software Engineer - CPU SoC Boot Firmware

Role Summary

Join the Chips System Software team to architect and implement boot firmware for flagship CPUs used in automotive, datacenter, and other high-compute platforms. The role focuses on secure, reliable boot sequences, safety and security requirements, pre-silicon validation, silicon bring-up, and productization.

Senior β€” 5+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

The engineer will develop and verify boot firmware features, work with hardware and software teams, and support silicon validation and productization.

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure boot firmware and bootloader features.
  • Define, decompose, and verify functional and safety requirements and system architecture.
  • Perform failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA/DFA) on boot functionality and architecture.
  • Validate and verify features on pre-silicon simulation platforms prior to tapeout.
  • Support silicon verification, post-silicon bring-up, and productization activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams internal and external to the group.

Requirements

Core technical and professional qualifications; items labeled "Nice-to-have" are optional but beneficial.

  • Must-have: 5+ years of relevant embedded software experience.
  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in C and Python, and strong debugging skills.
  • Must-have: Detailed and extensive experience with Linux kernel software.
  • Must-have: Experience with embedded software development for ARM-based systems.
  • Must-have: Experience with embedded software development and verification processes.
  • Must-have: Strong communication, collaboration, and planning skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Bare-metal programming experience and bootloader-specific experience.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with automotive functional safety and security standards.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
