Job Title

Senior System Software Engineer, Client Embedded Controller

Role Summary

Develop and deliver Embedded Controller (EC) firmware for client devices (notebooks). Work within platform and hardware teams and with EC chip vendors and OEM/ODM partners to integrate EC firmware with other platform firmware, validate hardware/software interactions, and support product qualification.

Role involves feature implementation, debugging, test automation, technical support to partners, and creation of vendor/OEM collateral.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 8+ years of software development experience with at least 5+ years relevant firmware/embedded experience (per job requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include ownership of EC firmware development and cross-team integration.

  • Design, implement, and deliver Embedded Controller (EC) firmware for client devices.
  • Integrate EC firmware with other platform firmware and system software.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to review HW architecture and schematics.
  • Work with EC chip vendors, OEMs/ODMs, and QA/Test architects to qualify firmware and produce test tools and automation.
  • Provide technical support to EC chip vendors and OEM/ODM partners during development and product introduction.
  • Develop vendor and OEM/ODM collaterals, documentation, and debugging guidance.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Significant firmware and system software development experience (multiple years implementing production firmware).
  • Proven experience implementing firmware on ARM architecture and system software in Linux environments.
  • Experience developing Embedded Controller (EC) firmware and strong C/C++ skills.
  • Strong knowledge of low-level interfaces: GPIO, I2C, SPI, eSPI, PCIe, JTAG; experience with PCIe enumeration and platform-level IO for notebooks.
  • Experience working directly with HW teams, ODMs, and vendors during product bring-up and support.
  • Python scripting for tooling and debugging in embedded Linux environments.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Zephyr OS.
  • Deep expertise in Arm embedded architecture.
  • Experience supporting Windows on Arm platforms.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
