Job Title

Senior System Design Engineer

Role Summary

Senior system design engineer in the Data Center & Energy group based in Limerick, Ireland. Develop embedded software, algorithms, and lab prototypes to generate and validate advanced telemetry for high‑performance, high‑reliability power supply applications.

This is a hands‑on, lab‑intensive systems role requiring experiment design, hardware bring‑up, algorithm tuning, and direct collaboration with internal stakeholders and customers.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role expects roughly 4+ years of relevant system design, embedded development, or mixed hardware/software engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing experiments, building prototypes, and producing reliable telemetry and diagnostics for power systems.

  • Design and run lab experiments to identify indicators of power system health and evaluate heuristic performance.
  • Develop embedded algorithms and heuristics to infer power supply behavior from multi-signal measurements.
  • Tune and validate algorithms to minimize false positives and negatives across diverse use cases.
  • Build and use FPGA- and microprocessor-based prototypes to test and refine monitoring methods.
  • Perform board-level bring-up, measurement, and debug to support system-level evaluations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and present technical findings to stakeholders, including customers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • 4+ years of experience in system design, embedded development, or mixed HW/SW engineering roles.
  • Strong understanding of power supply operation and measurement fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in embedded software development (C/C++) and algorithm implementation; scripting for data analysis (Python or MATLAB).
  • Experience with FPGA- or microprocessor-based system bring-up and lab debugging.
  • Proficient with high-performance measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SMUs, electronic loads).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and effective written and verbal communication.

Nice-to-have (preferred)

  • Background in signal processing, anomaly detection, or model-based system diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with power telemetry data formats and board management protocols (e.g., PMBus).
  • Experience engaging directly with customers or external stakeholders.
  • Experience building automation tools for data capture, experiment orchestration, or algorithm evaluation.
  • Exposure to reliability engineering, environmental testing, or characterization of power systems.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (or equivalent practical experience) is stated as a minimum. A master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is preferred. The posting explicitly allows equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
