Job Title

Senior Supplier Quality Engineer

Role Summary

Senior engineer responsible for supplier quality strategy, qualification, and issue resolution for Microsoft's custom and semi-custom SoC and related hardware. The role sits in Silicon Manufacturing & Product Engineering (SMPE) within Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering and focuses on enabling high-volume, high-quality hardware manufacturing for cloud infrastructure.

Work site: hybrid — typically 3 days per week in-office in Austin, TX. Travel: less than 25%.

Experience Level

Senior — role expects experienced engineers (posting indicates multi-year engineering experience; typical candidates have 5+ years in related technical engineering or equivalent).

Responsibilities

Lead supplier quality efforts across suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure reliable ramp and sustained product quality.

  • Lead supplier quality engineering roadmap for Microsoft custom and semi-custom SoC development.
  • Drive onboarding methodology for new suppliers and manage NPI product ramps.
  • Develop quality strategies for OSATs, ODMs, foundries and indirect material suppliers.
  • Define qualification criteria and supplier reliability plans to de-risk future products.
  • Define supplier benchmarking methods and lead supplier audits when required.
  • Lead investigation and resolution of high-impact quality events; drive RCCA and CAPA.
  • Collaborate across silicon, system, and datacenter teams to ensure end-to-end quality.
  • Perform FMEA and drive DFM, DFR and DFQ initiatives under NPI (NUDD) roadmaps.

Requirements

  • Significant technical engineering experience in hardware, silicon, or manufacturing environments, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to work on-site in Austin approximately 3 days per week.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and other security screenings required for the role.
  • Must satisfy export-control eligibility; employment contingent on providing proof of citizenship, U.S. residency, or other protected status for access to export-controlled information.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience (5+ years) in manufacturing and supplier quality engineering, especially in semiconductors and hi‑tech manufacturing.
  • Experience with SoC product qualification and board/system-level interactions.
  • Experience defining and implementing quality management system (QMS) methodology.
  • Knowledge of advanced silicon process nodes and packaging technologies (e.g., TSV, CPO).
  • Industry certifications such as ASQ CQE, VDA auditor, Six Sigma Black Belt, or ISO-related certifications.

Education Requirements

Posting requests advanced technical degrees or equivalent experience: Doctorate, Master’s, or Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical fields — or equivalent practical experience.
