Job Title
Senior Staff Systems Engineer – Power Management
Role Summary
Hardware systems role defining and validating protection devices and power-management solutions for enterprise, data center, AI server, telecom, and industrial power systems. The engineer converts customer and application needs into product specifications, validation plans, reference designs, and technical collateral, and drives product readiness from concept to customer ramp.
Works across applications, design, validation, product engineering, marketing, and customers to align requirements, run system validation, and support early design-ins and NPI activities.
Experience Level
Senior — expects experienced candidates. The posting requests 6+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering, applications engineering, product definition, validation, or IC development for power management or analog semiconductor products.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focused on system-level product definition, validation, and customer support for protection devices and high-current/high-voltage power systems.
- Define system-level product requirements, architectures, and datasheet/spec content for input protection devices targeting 48 V and high-voltage distribution.
- Collaborate with customers, field teams, product marketing, applications, design, validation, test, and program management to capture needs and tradeoffs.
- Analyze target applications, RFQs, system pain points, and competitive solutions to identify product gaps and roadmap opportunities.
- Develop validation plans, verification matrices, and risk/tradeoff summaries; drive corner-case and fault-response testing, thermal and transient characterization, and power-integrity validation.
- Design, review, and debug evaluation boards, reference designs, and proof-of-concept platforms; perform lab bring-up, bench characterization, and silicon evaluation.
- Review schematics and PCB layouts for high-current, high-power-density constraints; support failure analysis and system troubleshooting.
- Create simulation models, calculators, application notes, user guides, and training material to support customers and internal teams.
- Lead technical customer engagements, design reviews, RFQ responses, and support NPI execution to ensure product readiness and ramp.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
-
Must-have: Strong foundation in power electronics, protection devices, MOSFET/SOA behavior, analog control loops, thermal design, and high-current board design.
- Hands-on lab debug and validation experience with oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, thermal measurement equipment, and data acquisition tools.
- Experience reviewing schematics and PCB layouts; familiarity with PCB constraints for high-current, high-power-density systems.
- Experience using simulation and analysis tools such as SPICE/PSpice, SIMPLIS, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalents for system modeling and control-loop analysis.
- Ability to produce technical documentation: specifications, validation plans, datasheet content, application notes, and evaluation board guides.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical tradeoffs to customers and cross-functional teams.
-
Nice-to-have: PMBus/I²C telemetry and control experience, safety/reliability and EMI/ESD/layout awareness, scripting for test automation (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW), and customer-facing experience with hyperscalers or server OEMs/ODMs.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related discipline is listed. A Bachelor's degree with equivalent depth of relevant practical experience may be considered. (Equivalent practical experience acceptable where specified.)
