Job Title
Senior/Staff STPG Product Engineering - Probe
Role Summary
The Probe Product Engineer in STPG Product Engineering owns probe strategy and silicon learning at wafer test across first-silicon bring-up, qualification, and high-volume manufacturing. This role defines probe coverage intent, probe limits and guard-bands, and drives yield, quality, and test-cost outcomes.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Specific years of experience not stated.
Responsibilities
The engineer translates design intent, device operation, and process interactions into manufacturable probe strategies and works across Design, DFT, DV, Process Integration, Backend Test, and Reliability to enable scalable probe solutions.
- Define and own probe coverage intent, mapping design features and process risks into observability, screening, trims, and guard-bands.
- Release and sustain probe test flows from first silicon through qualification and HVM, meeting coverage objectives while minimizing unnecessary test overhead.
- Establish probe limits and guard-bands based on silicon characterization, design intent, and customer specifications; align to downstream test.
- Lead probe enablement for new product introductions and technology ramps; identify risks and drive mitigations.
- Partner with Design, DFT, and DV during pre-silicon to influence DFT architecture, test hooks, observability, redundancy, and trim structures.
- Support first-silicon bring-up and device characterization using probe platforms and lab setups; correlate early silicon behavior with probe results.
- Drive wafer-level yield learning, bin definitions, and failure-mode analysis at probe; enable intrinsic and extrinsic screening strategies.
- Improve test efficiency and optimize flows for coverage right-sizing and cost reduction; support wafer-level speed activities.
- Use probe, inline, and reliability data for yield analysis, anomaly detection, and decision support; contribute to AI/ML initiatives for predictive probe and test optimization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and cross-functional abilities required to perform the role.
- Strong fundamentals in semiconductor devices, wafer test, and product engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to use silicon behavior and characterization data to make probe, yield, and coverage decisions.
- Experience or strong interest in silicon learning, device behavior, yield mechanisms, and design-to-manufacturing integration (DFT intent, probe/test correlation).
- Strong analytical skills and structured root-cause analysis capability.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with global, cross-functional teams.
- Experience leveraging data, analytics, or AI/ML for yield analysis, anomaly detection, predictive probe, or test optimization is desirable.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering (with strong hardware/circuits/semiconductor focus), Semiconductor Physics, or a related technical field.
