Senior Staff Software Engineer, Data
LumilensJob Title
Senior Staff Software Engineer, Data
Role Summary
Build and own data pipelines, models, validation, and dashboards that convert manufacturing and test data into reliable signals for engineers, quality teams, and leadership. Collaborate directly with optical, manufacturing, and reliability engineers across multiple sites to deliver production-grade data systems.
This role covers design, implementation, and operational ownership of data infrastructure in a fast-moving startup.
Experience Level
Senior / Staff level. Requires 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant work on data systems.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
- Architect and implement data pipelines and infrastructure for manufacturing and test data (yield, SPC, failure, reliability).
- Design, build, and maintain dashboards and visualizations for engineering, executives, and customers.
- Partner with optical, manufacturing, and quality/reliability engineers to translate domain requirements into robust data models and tooling.
- Develop and maintain automated data quality checks and validation pipelines that can gate critical processes.
- Identify and remediate missing, inaccurate, or inconsistent data in collaboration with domain experts.
- Drive improvements to pipeline reliability, turnaround time, and cost across product lines.
- Apply software engineering best practices to data systems: version control, testing, code review, and CI/CD.
- Help set technical direction for the data organization and mentor other engineers.
Requirements
Must-have:
- 5+ years professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience building and owning data systems (data engineering, analytics engineering, or backend systems for operational datasets).
- Strong SQL skills and experience designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience building dashboards and visualizations with BI/analytics tools (e.g., Superset, Looker, Tableau). Apache Superset experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with the Python data stack (pandas, numpy) and visualization libraries (matplotlib, seaborn, altair, or similar).
- Experience with cloud data infrastructure, preferably AWS.
- Proven ability to partner with non-data domain experts and translate ambiguous requirements into reliable data solutions.
- Comfort owning a system end-to-end in a fast-moving startup environment.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with manufacturing, semiconductor, hardware, or other high-volume operational/test data.
- Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) or yield analysis concepts.
- Experience working across distributed, multi-site teams.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
