Senior Staff RTL Design Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Senior Staff RTL Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver RTL for one or more functional units of micro-controllers or application processors within the Modem Technologies engineering group. Work closely with architecture, verification, modeling, validation and implementation teams to meet functional and performance, power and area (PPA) targets.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. The position is targeted at engineers with substantial ASIC RTL/CPU/SoC experience (typically 10β15 years), and expects technical leadership on complex RTL projects.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on micro-architecture definition, RTL development, and delivery to meet PPA and functional requirements.
- Interpret high-level specifications and requirements for functional units.
- Define micro-architecture and implement RTL across all design stages.
- Collaborate with verification to develop test plans and achieve verification closure.
- Analyze synthesis and timing reports; identify and remediate critical PPA issues.
- Integrate blocks into SoC-level environments and coordinate with modeling/validation teams.
- Communicate and coordinate with global teams (US, Europe, India) to ensure alignment and delivery.
Requirements
Core technical skills and experience required for immediate contribution.
- Strong front-end ASIC design experience: RTL coding and front-end tool flow leading to signoff.
- Experience with synthesis/timing analysis and addressing timing/PPA bottlenecks.
- Proven experience in complex designs (data-path or control-path).
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with CPU or micro-controller designs (multi-pipeline architectures).
- Understanding of SoC subsystems; familiarity with operating system software is a plus.
- Effective communication, teamwork, and ability to work with distributed international teams.
Education Requirements
Degree preferred: Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Qualcomm also lists experience-based alternatives: Bachelor's + 6+ years, Master's + 5+ years, or PhD + 4+ years in relevant engineering roles. Applications with equivalent practical experience will be considered.
