Job Title

Senior Staff Physical Verification CAD Engineer

Role Summary

Senior staff engineer responsible for developing and maintaining physical verification (PV) CAD flows, tools, and automation to support advanced semiconductor tape-outs. Works closely with design, layout, and foundry teams to ensure DRC/LVS integrity and efficient SoC integration.

Experience Level

Senior-level. See Education Requirements for the posting's stated years-of-experience guidance tied to academic qualifications.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on PV flow development, EDA tool integration, automation, and tape-out support.

  • Develop and maintain runsets and validation procedures for DRC/LVS using Synopsys ICV and Mentor Calibre.
  • Automate PV flows, design-rule decks, and layout migration tasks to improve efficiency and turn-around time.
  • Integrate EDA tools and third-party IP into cohesive, reproducible design flows for digital and analog blocks and SoC integration.
  • Support tape-out, foundry interface activities, and debug DRC/LVS issues with designers and foundry engineers.
  • Create validation test cases, user guides, and training materials; provide user support for PV tools.
  • Monitor and optimize tool performance and reliability across projects; evaluate and select EDA tools and methodologies.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred.

  • Proven experience in CAD/EDA tool development and support within the semiconductor industry.
  • Hands-on experience with Synopsys ICV (required); Mentor Calibre svrf/tvf preferred.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Tcl, Perl, Python).
  • Strong understanding of the complete IC design flow from RTL to physical implementation and verification.
  • Experience debugging DRC/LVS and using full-custom layout tools to create and validate test cases.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience leading projects and mentoring engineers preferred.

Education Requirements

Posting specifies: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (typically paired with ~3–5 years of relevant experience); or a Master's degree or PhD in those fields (typically paired with ~2–3 years of relevant experience). Equivalent professional experience in lieu of a formal degree is explicitly accepted.
