Senior Staff Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Senior hardware engineer responsible for planning, designing, optimizing, verifying and testing complex electronic systems with an emphasis on physical design, bring-up and yield for advanced SoC and hardware products. Works with cross-functional teams to meet performance, power, area and reliability targets.

Experience Level

Senior level. Typical candidates have multiple years of hardware engineering experience; 12+ years is preferred and candidates should demonstrate independent technical ownership and influence over multi-team decisions.

Responsibilities

Accountable for advanced physical design and hardware engineering activities across design, verification, validation and manufacturing.

  • Plan, optimize, verify and test critical electronic systems, including digital/analog/RF and FPGA/DSP subsystems.
  • Lead or participate in implementation of advanced design rules and processes for hardware and integrated circuits.
  • Perform complex simulations and analyses; optimize designs for power, performance and area.
  • Collaborate with design, verification, validation, software and systems teams to integrate requirements and test solutions.
  • Evaluate and develop manufacturing and bring-up solutions to improve yield, test time and product quality.
  • Assess reliability of materials and processes; introduce automation and optimization to improve productivity.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship; review and produce detailed technical documentation.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly to influence engineering and program decisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • Extensive hardware engineering experience, including circuit/logic design and validation for digital, analog or RF domains.
  • Practical experience with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools.
  • Experience using hardware design and measurement instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools, etc.).
  • Proven ability to lead technical efforts and provide guidance to other engineers.
  • Skilled in complex simulation, characterization, and evaluation of designs and manufacturing solutions.
  • Strong documentation, verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions that affect broader programs.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications specify a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering or related field with 6+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR a Master’s in those fields with 5+ years; OR a PhD in those fields with 4+ years.
