Senior Staff Formal Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Senior engineer responsible for applying formal verification methods to Qualcomm Adreno GPU blocks to improve sign-off quality. Work with architecture, RTL design, and verification teams to define and execute formal property verification strategies for complex graphics datapaths.

Responsibilities

Technical ownership of formal verification activities for GPU subsystems, from planning to sign-off.

  • Analyze GPU 3D graphics pipeline blocks, interfaces, and data paths to identify formal verification targets.
  • Define and execute formal property verification (FPV) test plans and assertion-based testbenches.
  • Write and maintain SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA) and debug RTL artifacts exposed by formal runs.
  • Apply abstraction and other techniques to manage proof complexity and achieve proofs.
  • Drive coverage closure, bug hunting, and formal sign-off matrices.
  • Collaborate with global architecture, RTL design, and DV teams to integrate formal results into verification closure.
  • Engage with EDA vendors and evaluate new formal/DV methodologies to improve sign-off quality.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for success in the role.

  • Hands-on experience using industry-standard formal verification tools and methodologies.
  • Proven experience writing and debugging SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA).
  • Experience developing FPV test plans, assertion-based testbenches, and performing formal sign-off activities.
  • Strong RTL debugging and bug-hunting skills; ability to trace formal failures to RTL issues.
  • Familiarity with abstraction techniques and strategies to reduce proof complexity.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across distributed engineering teams.
  • Nice-to-have: prior experience with GPUs or graphics hardware verification; experience with DPV, C2RTL SEQ, RTL2RTL SEQ, or similar formal applications.

Education Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in those fields with 5+ years; or a PhD in those fields with 4+ years relevant experience.
