Senior Staff Field Applications Engineer (FAE)

Role Summary

Provide application engineering support for Renesas automotive products (MCUs, SoCs, analog, and power) and drive design-ins with OEM customers. Collaborate with Sales, Product Marketing, System Architects, and global application engineering teams to define customer requirements and influence product roadmaps.

Work includes technical consulting, system-level design guidance, project management to achieve design-in targets, lab measurements, and customer-facing technical presentations.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Minimum 10 years of related work experience, including at least 5 years in automotive applications.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Drive design-in activities for Renesas automotive products across applications such as IVI, ADAS, xEV, and vehicle controls.
• Define new product requirements in cooperation with customers and internal technical marketing and applications teams.
• Act as the technical interface to OEM customer engineering teams during development and integration.
• Derive customer system requirements and translate market trends into system value propositions.
• Recommend product and partner ecosystem choices to optimize customer system designs.
• Manage projects with Sales and Marketing to achieve design-in targets.
• Lead technical discussions with System Architects and Application Engineering experts to shape application roadmaps.
• Collaborate on documentation and system demonstrators (application notes, whitepapers, software/hardware demos).
• Perform system measurements and lab testing for customer projects and present technical seminars.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; where noted, items are preferred rather than mandatory.

• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in automotive applications.
• Deep knowledge of semiconductors: SoC, MCU, analog, and power product domains.
• Experience with OS/frameworks such as Linux, QNX, AUTOSAR, or other RTOS.
• Proficient in multi-threaded programming, middleware, IPC, and OS fundamentals.
• Working knowledge of automotive functional safety and cybersecurity concepts.
• System-level power and thermal management understanding.
• Experience with vehicle architecture and in-vehicle network design.
• Hands-on system bring-up, testing, and debugging skills; familiarity with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and standard lab equipment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build and maintain relationships with OEM engineering teams.
• Working experience as a Field/Application Engineer for microcontrollers and SoCs is preferred.
