Job Title
Senior Staff Engineer - Validation
Role Summary
Lead IP characterization and silicon validation for analog and DSP-based SerDes and related blocks. Manage local lab activities, develop and execute validation plans, and coordinate across R&D, firmware, product and field teams to close gaps between simulation and silicon.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 10+ years of experience in silicon validation, characterization, and system performance testing.
Responsibilities
Deliver IP- and system-level validation, lead test planning and lab execution, and mentor other engineers.
- Validate and characterize analog and DSP SerDes blocks (PLL, equalizer, high-performance ADC, serializer, DAC, driver).
- Define measurement methodology and test procedures to verify IP datasheet parameters and close gaps between simulation and silicon.
- Develop and execute full validation and characterization plans; drive issues to resolution.
- Collaborate with firmware and block designers to optimize control settings, calibration sequences and methodologies.
- Work with system validation and application engineers to optimize system performance and robustness.
- Provide signal-integrity and board-design requirements to support characterization and debug.
- Support bring-up activities and provide device-specific application engineering to customers and FAEs, including debugging and demo kit architecture.
- Author technical collateral: application notes, user guides, design ideas and evaluation kit documentation.
- Manage local lab equipment and automated test control; mentor and lead other validation engineers.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience; followed by notable advantages.
-
Must-have: 10+ years of hands-on silicon validation/characterization experience focused on high-speed multi-lane SerDes and related analog/DSP blocks.
-
Must-have: Practical experience in circuit bring-up, validation and analysis of high-speed interfaces and multi-standard SerDes, including testing ADCs, PLLs, DACs and drivers.
-
Must-have: Ability to define IP performance parameters, develop test platforms and execute validation plans.
-
Must-have: Experience with lab equipment and automated control (oscilloscopes, BERTs, VNA, spectrum analyzers, GPIB/488 automation) and general lab validation techniques.
-
Must-have: Experience working cross-functionally with international teams and effective communication and presentation skills.
-
Must-have: Familiarity with protocols such as PCI-Express, KR/SR/MR/ER/LR variants, 25/50/100/200GBASE, CPRI, CEI-56G, or similar.
-
Nice-to-have: Software control of lab equipment (C++, Perl, Python) for automated testing.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience using ADS, MATLAB or other simulation tools to model SerDes; electro-optical systems experience; analog circuit experience.
-
Nice-to-have: Understanding of signal integrity, transmission lines, EM and microwave fundamentals.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE/MSEE) or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
