Senior Staff Engineer - Systems
Role Summary
Senior Systems/DSP engineer on the Location Group systems team, responsible for architecting and modeling GNSS wireless baseband receivers and developing bit- and cycle-accurate receiver models to verify ASIC implementations. This role works closely with RTL, verification, RF, firmware, and driver teams to deliver production-quality location IP for mobile and wearable products.
Experience Level
Senior level. Experience guidance: Bachelor's +15 years, Master's +13 years, or Ph.D. +10 years in relevant technical fields (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, modeling, verification, and performance analysis of GNSS/location receiver systems.
- Develop and optimize receiver algorithms and architectures for GNSS signals (GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, Beidou).
- Develop, maintain, and optimize C/C++ receiver models used for RTL bit- and cycle-accurate verification and algorithm development.
- Design advanced signal-processing algorithms, front-end and baseband architectures.
- Build and run large end-to-end receiver simulation models to benchmark system performance and validate hardware design.
- Collaborate with DV, RTL, RF, firmware, and driver teams to model and verify ASIC implementations.
- Perform FPGA-based design verification, ASIC and board bring-up, and hands-on lab testing and debugging.
- Perform detailed data analysis of product logs for performance characterization and issue resolution.
- Prepare and present technical reports on algorithms, software, simulations, and test results.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed to support product optimization and cross-site collaboration.
Requirements

Must-have:
- Strong software development in C/C++ and Python; proficiency with MATLAB for algorithm development.
- Deep knowledge of wireless receiver architecture and components (AGC, DSP filters, correlators, FFT, AFC, PLL).
- Solid foundation in signal processing, detection and estimation theory, wireless channels, and random processes.
- Experience with GNSS acquisition and tracking algorithms.
- Data analysis, visualization, and issue triage skills.
- Experience with version control and collaboration tools such as Git, Gerrit, and Jira.
- Strong debugging skills, disciplined coding practices, and ability to analyze complex codebases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with FPGA-based verification and hardware bring-up.
- Experience integrating receiver models with firmware, drivers, or system software.
- Prior work on ASIC validation, lab instrumentation, or board-level debugging.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of relevant industry experience, or Master's degree with 13+ years, or Ph.D. with 10+ years in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
