Senior Staff Engineer, Synthesis and P&R

Role Summary

Senior technical role focused on synthesis and physical design (place & route) customer engagements. The role partners with R&D to develop high-performance reference flows, run benchmarks on advanced CPU/GPU/NPU designs, and provide hands-on PPA (performance, power, area) support to strategic customers.

Experience Level

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership to customers and R&D to improve synthesis and physical design outcomes.

• Develop and refine high-performance reference flows for synthesis and physical design with R&D.
• Run benchmarks using Design Compiler, ICC2, and Fusion Compiler on CPU/GPU/NPU designs to demonstrate PPA improvements.
• Diagnose and resolve timing, congestion, and PPA bottlenecks on advanced-node designs (3nm and below).
• Deploy HPC methodologies and best practices to accelerate customer tape-out schedules.
• Build and maintain automation scripts (Perl, Tcl) for benchmarking and flow deployment.
• Collaborate across time zones with engineering teams and customers to support critical milestones.
• Remain current with ASIC design flow, advanced placement/routing rules, and CAD development to improve delivered solutions.

Must-have

• Hands-on experience using EDA tools: Design Compiler, ICC2, and Fusion Compiler on production designs.
• Solid understanding of advanced placement and routing rules, timing-closure techniques, and physical-design optimization.
• Proficiency with scripting for automation and flow development (Perl, Tcl).
• Strong knowledge of ASIC design flow, VLSI fundamentals, and CAD tool architecture.
• Fluent English, written and verbal, to present technical content and engage with customers.

Nice-to-have

• Experience with CPU, GPU, or NPU designs, especially on advanced nodes (5nm or below).
• Prior work on 3nm-class or similar cutting-edge process nodes.

Education Requirements
