Senior Staff Engineer — SoC RTL Design
Role Summary
Design and implement high-performance IP and SoC RTL for AI and compute workloads. Work at the intersection of microarchitecture, RTL implementation, and performance-aware design within a cross-functional hardware team. Hybrid role based out of Toronto, Ottawa, Boston, or Austin.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff). Candidates will be assessed during interviews and the final level/offer may differ from this posting.
Responsibilities
Deliver RTL, collaborate across teams, and support validation and backend flow.
- Architect and implement custom IP blocks and SoC components in RTL (Verilog/VHDL).
- Drive performance-aware design decisions for compute, interconnect, and memory-heavy blocks.
- Collaborate on spec definition, peer reviews, and cross-team planning with DV, physical design, and firmware teams.
- Support validation through emulation, FPGA prototyping, or UVM-based flows.
- Provide synthesis and timing-closure guidance to backend teams to meet power, performance, and area goals.

- Must-have: Deep understanding of computer architecture and IP microarchitecture.
- Must-have: Proficient in RTL development (Verilog and/or VHDL) and familiar with full ASIC flows.
- Must-have: Experience optimizing for power, performance, and area (PPA); strong synthesis and timing-closure awareness.
- Must-have: Experience with validation methods such as emulation, FPGA prototyping, or UVM-based verification.
- Must-have: Collaborative communication skills for specification, reviews, and cross-functional integration.
- Nice-to-have: Prior experience with on-chip fabric, interconnect, or advanced memory subsystem designs.
- Employment may be contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology (citizenship/permanent residency or ability to obtain required licenses).
