Senior Staff Engineer — Microcontroller Sub-System Verification

Role Summary

Join the Microcontroller Sub-System IP team to lead verification of embedded microcontroller/subsystem IP used across Qualcomm SoCs. The role focuses on verification strategy, methodology, and execution to enable high-quality silicon delivery for IoT, Mobile, Auto, XR, and Compute products.

Based in Cork, Ireland, you will work cross-functionally with design, architecture, SoC, software and validation teams and mentor engineers to raise verification capability and reduce integration risk.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires extensive experience (approximately 10+ years) in ASIC design verification and ownership of complex IP, subsystem, or SoC verification programs.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership across verification programs, own methodology and signoff, and enable subsystem integration and debug.

  • Define and lead verification strategy for complex microcontroller subsystems; influence architecture and milestones.
  • Architect reusable testbenches, UVCs, checkers, scoreboards, models and vertical/horizontal environments at block and subsystem level.
  • Establish and drive coverage strategy and closure; perform root-cause analysis of coverage gaps.
  • Introduce and evolve verification methodology (UVM, assertions, formal, constrained-random) emphasizing reuse and scalability.
  • Support subsystem integration, test planning, vector delivery and debug through to signoff.
  • Collaborate with design, architecture, SoC, software and program teams to reduce integration risk and meet schedule targets.
  • Mentor and develop engineers; raise team technical capability and execution quality.

Requirements

  • Significant hands-on ASIC verification experience with ownership of complex IP/subsystem/SoC verification (typically 10+ years).
  • Expert in UVM and SystemVerilog-based verification environments, including environment and infrastructure development.
  • Strong processor/microcontroller verification experience (ARM or RISC-V) and familiarity with ISA verification challenges.
  • Experience with formal verification tools and assertion-based verification methods.
  • Proven coverage-driven verification skills: constrained-random, coverage modeling and closure strategies.
  • Excellent debug and problem-solving skills, including triage of complex failures and driving resolution under schedule pressure.
  • Experience with RTL simulation tools and verification automation; strong scripting skills (Python/shell/Perl) and verification infrastructure development.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, ability to influence across teams, and mentorship experience.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with AMBA protocols, gate-level simulation and power extraction tools, power-aware verification methodologies, Jasper subsystem/SoC tooling, and C/C++ familiarity.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or a related field (with typically 6+ years ASIC verification experience), OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering or related field (with typically 5+ years experience), OR PhD in Science, Engineering or related field (with typically 4+ years experience). Equivalent practical experience will be considered where candidates demonstrate the required competencies.
