Job Title
Senior/Staff Engineer - Hardware Board Design Tools & Automation
Role Summary
Responsible for improving and automating schematic and PCB EDA tool flows to increase engineering productivity and quality across board design teams. The role works with hardware, SI/PI and project teams to validate and deploy multi-user schematic systems, integrate checking tools, and deliver repeatable automated processes.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. The posting targets experienced engineers; no specific years-of-experience requirement is stated.
Responsibilities
Work with engineering teams to implement, validate and maintain automated board design flows and checking systems.
- Support and improve Cadence-based board design flows (OrCAD, System Capture, Allegro).
- Evaluate, prove out and help deploy multi-user schematic build systems with team integration.
- Introduce and maintain automated schematic and PCB checking rules and flows.
- Integrate tools such as Siemens HyperLynx (DRC and schematic analysis) into regular processes.
- Develop scripts, utilities and CI-style automated workflows for report generation and status dashboards.
- Incorporate corporate-grade AI/LLM tools where they improve automation and review quality.
- Create scalable, reusable solutions that can be adopted across projects and shared externally when appropriate.
- Document workflows, communicate changes to engineers, and drive adoption of new processes.
Requirements
Technical skills and experience required to perform the role. Education is not specified in the source and is summarized separately below.
Must-have:
- Strong understanding of board design flows: schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation, review, manufacturing preparation and release cycles.
- Familiarity with PCB design rules, schematic & layout checks, and build constraints.
- Experience with Cadence board tools (OrCAD, System Capture, Allegro) and evaluating EDA tool features/ vendors.
- Scripting experience in Python or TCL to create tools and extensions.
- Practical ability to translate engineering problems into automated tool-based solutions and drive them to adoption.
- Strong problem-solving, independent working capability, and good interpersonal and documentation skills.
Preferred / Nice-to-have:
- Experience moving from single-user to multi-user/collaborative schematic flows.
- Experience creating DRC/ERC/schematic/layout checking rule sets and working with schematic analysis tools.
- Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, high-speed PCB design (DDR, PCIe, etc.).
- Experience with CI-style automation for workflows, dashboards and report generation.
- Familiarity with common board build data formats (netlists, BOMs, ODB++, Gerber, Cadence outputs).
- Practical experience using AI or LLM-based tools to improve engineering efficiency.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
