Job Title

Senior/ Staff Engineer, Firmware Test (SSD)

Role Summary

Responsible for planning and executing firmware verification and product-level test strategies for SSD products. Work with firmware engineering and cross-functional teams to validate performance, reliability, and debug failures for enterprise and automotive SSDs.

Experience Level

Senior level; typically 6–8 years of relevant SSD firmware test development experience. Candidates with 2–3 years and strong Python/test-development skills may be considered for more junior roles.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include verification planning, test development, automation, and leadership.

  • Design and maintain comprehensive firmware verification plans for SSD features.
  • Develop white-box, grey-box, and closed-system tests to verify firmware behavior.
  • Analyze regression failures and perform root-cause analysis of firmware, NAND, and system issues.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain test frameworks and automation; manage reporting.
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborate with firmware developers to improve code quality.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, and mitigation plans to cross-functional teams and management.
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve test efficiency and quality.
  • Lead and mentor technical team members as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and behaviors.

  • 6–8 years of SSD firmware test development experience (senior level).
  • Strong Python programming and test development skills.
  • Deep knowledge of storage protocols and specifications: PCIe, NVMe, NVMe‑MI, OCP.
  • Strong understanding of NAND flash operation and SSD firmware components; experience validating and debugging NAND, firmware, and system-level issues.
  • Experience with Agile development, Git workflows, automated build systems, continuous integration, and test automation platforms.
  • Proven problem-solving, analytical skills, and ability to work independently on complex tasks.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with applying AI-enabled tools responsibly for research, analysis, and operational tasks.
  • Note: candidates with 2–3 years of experience but strong Python and test-development experience may be considered for more junior openings.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
