Senior/Staff Engineer, Firmware Test (SSD)

Role Summary

Senior/Staff Firmware and Product Test Engineer for Micron's SSD group. Responsible for designing and executing firmware verification and validation to ensure SSD performance and reliability for enterprise and automotive markets.

The role partners with firmware developers and cross-functional teams to root-cause failures, improve code quality, and lead technical test efforts.

Experience Level

Senior / Staff level. Typical guidance: 6–8 years of relevant SSD firmware test development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include planning, developing, and executing firmware tests, analyzing results, and leading technical efforts.

• Create comprehensive firmware verification plans for firmware features.
• Develop white-box, grey-box, known, and closed-system test methods.
• Run regressions, analyze failures, and perform root-cause analysis.
• Manage test development, deployment, automation, and reporting.
• Communicate technical and non-technical issues and mitigation plans to cross-functional teams and management.
• Participate in code reviews and guide the team to ensure coverage and correct architecture.
• Integrate AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve efficiency and quality.
• Establish strong working relationships with firmware engineers to improve code quality.
• Lead and mentor technical staff as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and experience; concise and specific.

• 6–8 years relevant SSD firmware test development experience (expect senior level responsibility).
• Proven experience in SSD firmware testing and Python programming.
• Deep knowledge of storage protocols and specifications such as PCIe, NVMe, NVMe-MI, and OCP.
• Strong understanding of NAND flash operation and SSD firmware components; experience validating and debugging NAND/firmware/system-level issues.
• Experience with automated build systems, continuous integration, and test automation.
• Familiarity with Agile development practices and GIT branching workflows.
• Demonstrated leadership, mentoring ability, and capacity to work independently on complex tasks.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to apply baseline digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy to use AI-enabled tools responsibly.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science is listed. The posting also allows equivalent practical experience; candidates with 2–3 years of relevant experience but strong Python and test development skills may be considered for entry-level positions.
