Senior Staff Embedded Device Software Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Ethernet PHY embedded software team to design, develop, and maintain drivers and embedded device software for high-performance Ethernet transceivers. Work closely with hardware and firmware engineers to optimize system performance, build test infrastructure, and support field engineering.
Expected base pay range (USD): 132,500 - 196,140 per year. This role is eligible for bonus and equity programs.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing software interfaces, drivers, tools, and test infrastructure for Ethernet PHY products, and supporting customers and cross-functional teams.
- Design, implement, and test software components for a structured API to control Ethernet transceivers.
- Develop and maintain kernel PHY drivers and system-level software for transceiver products.
- Create utilities, diagnostics, and automation tools for embedded software development and evaluation.
- Build and maintain test infrastructure, automated test scripts, and data analysis tools.
- Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams to analyze system performance and identify optimizations.
- Contribute to Python-based GUIs and automated data collection/analysis systems.
- Support Field Application Engineering teams in troubleshooting and resolving customer issues.

Must-have
- Proficiency in C for embedded systems across OS environments (Linux and Windows).
- Practical experience with Python for scripting, tooling, and automation.
- Experience with Windows Visual Studio and system-level software development.
- Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), CI/CD workflows, and issue tracking systems (e.g., Jira).
- Strong debugging skills, diagnostics experience, and ability to follow coding standards and best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and to support customer-facing engineering teams.
- Must be eligible to access export-controlled technology and information; non-U.S. citizens may be subject to export license review.
Nice-to-have
- Experience developing and debugging Linux kernel drivers, especially for PHY devices.
- Hands-on experience with Ethernet transceiver device drivers and knowledge of Ethernet physical layer protocols.
- Familiarity with Ethernet switching, MAC/PHY/SerDes, MACsec, PTP, and high-availability systems.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of industry experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3+ years of industry experience.
