Senior Staff Digital Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead design and development of digital subsystems for mixed-signal ASICs, from architecture through lab validation. Work within Semtech’s Wireless and LoRa system teams in Neuchâtel (and Grenoble), collaborating with analog, verification, validation, test, and product teams.

Focus on high-performance, low-power digital architecture, RTL implementation, and production readiness.

Experience Level

Senior-level; requires 8+ years of digital IC design experience (per posting).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecture, RTL design, verification support, and lab validation.

• Design and implement digital subsystems: CPU-based architectures, FSMs, interconnects, and peripherals (e.g., I2C, SPI, analog controls).
• Define and architect digital system blocks and make system-level trade-offs.
• Collaborate with analog teams on mixed-signal interfaces and integration.
• Debug and analyze RTL and verification issues; drive root-cause resolution.
• Support block- and chip-level verification activities with verification teams.
• Contribute to lab validation, product qualification, and cross-functional engineering efforts.
• Drive continuous improvement of design methodologies, tools, and overall design quality.

• Must-have: Deep experience in digital IC development including frontend-to-backend flow, timing closure, and low-power design techniques.
• Proven experience with MCU-based architectures (ARM, RISC-V, STM32) and digital microarchitecture.
• Proficiency in SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL and scripting (Python, Tcl, or Perl).
• Experience with industry-standard EDA tools (Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens).
• Understanding of verification methodologies (UVM/OVM, formal verification).
• Familiarity with hardware interfaces (I2C, I3C, SPI, MIPI).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
• Nice-to-have: Wireless communications experience (BLE, IEEE 802.15.4), transceiver and signal-processing knowledge, cryptographic block exposure, FPGA design and validation experience, familiarity with Git.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
