Job Title

Senior Staff Applications Engineer (Electronics Thermal Management)

Role Summary

Senior applications engineer responsible for leading technical customer engagements and deploying simulation solutions for electronics cooling at the package, board, and system level. The role partners with sales, product development, and customers to translate real-world thermal challenges into validated workflows and product improvements.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Expect advanced hands-on experience in engineering software and customer-facing application roles; see Education Requirements for degree-and-years guidance.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership during sales and deployment, delivering training and technical content, and feeding customer feedback into product development.

  • Lead technical engagement through discovery, demos, proofs-of-concept, and evaluations with prospective customers.
  • Work directly with customers to define cooling challenges, workflows, and simulation requirements at package, board, and system levels.
  • Deploy and integrate simulation tools (Fluent, Icepak, Mechanical or equivalents) into customer design processes to deliver engineering value.
  • Test new software releases on industrial thermal problems and produce application best practices and documentation.
  • Partner with product teams to convert customer needs into feature requests and roadmap priorities.
  • Deliver training, consulting engagements, and presentations at customer sites, remotely, and at industry events.
  • Author technical content for conferences, webinars, and marketing to demonstrate domain expertise.

Requirements

Key must-have skills and experience for success in this role.

  • Must-have: Minimum 4+ years in application engineering, customer support, or consulting directly supporting customers with engineering software.
  • Must-have: Strong technical grounding and hands-on experience in fluid mechanics, CFD, and thermodynamics applied to electronics thermal management.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with Ansys tools (Fluent, Icepak, Mechanical) or equivalent experience with CAE/EDA/CAD/PLM platforms.
  • Must-have: Experience integrating simulation into customer workflows (not only isolated analyses).
  • Must-have: Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences; ability to train and mentor engineers.
  • Must-have: Willingness to travel domestically up to ~25% (flexible to ~50% as needed).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with multiphysics coupling (electro-thermal, thermo-mechanical) and prior contributions to product development or technical marketing.

Education Requirements

MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years in engineering software environments; or BS with 8+ years; or PhD with 3+ years (note: PhD with ~7+ years preferred). Fields: Mechanical Engineering or related technical disciplines with focus on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and CFD. No specific certifications required.
