Job Title
Senior Staff Applications Engineer (Electronics Thermal Management)
Role Summary
Lead customer-facing applications engineering for electronics thermal management, deploying CFD and multiphysics simulation solutions across package, board, and system levels. Join the Ansys Customer Excellence team to support customers, influence product development, and deliver technical training and content.
Position is based in Vancouver, BC. Remote-eligible; requires travel within Canada and the United States approximately 25% of the time.
Experience Level
Senior-level. See Education Requirements for degree-and-years guidance; role expects substantial prior experience in applications/customer-facing engineering and simulation-driven product support.
Responsibilities
Main day-to-day responsibilities include technical sales support, customer consulting, and product feedback.
- Lead technical engagement across the sales cycle: discovery, demos, proofs-of-concept, and evaluations.
- Work directly with customers to define thermal challenges, simulation requirements, and design workflows at package, board, and system levels.
- Deploy and integrate Ansys simulation tools (Fluent, Icepak, Mechanical) into customer processes to demonstrate engineering value.
- Test new product releases on industrial thermal problems, document results, and produce application best practices.
- Partner with product development to convert customer feedback into feature requests and roadmap priorities.
- Deliver training, consulting engagements, and technical presentations onsite and remotely; represent the company at industry events and conferences.
- Author technical content for conferences, webinars, and marketing materials.
- Mentor junior applications engineers and share domain expertise across the team.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, customer-facing experience, and other practical requirements.
- Proven experience in application engineering, customer support, or consulting with engineering software (minimum several years of customer-facing experience expected).
- Strong technical grounding and hands-on application in fluid mechanics, CFD, and thermodynamics specific to electronics thermal management.
- Proficiency with Ansys tools (Fluent, Icepak, Mechanical) or equivalent CAE/EDA/PLM simulation tools.
- Experience integrating simulation into customer design workflows (not limited to running isolated analyses).
- Multiphysics experience (electro-thermal, thermo-mechanical coupling) is a strong plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability and willingness to travel (~25%) and to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams.
Education Requirements
MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years' relevant experience; OR BS with 8+ years; OR PhD with 3+ years (PhD with 7+ years preferred). Equivalent practical experience may be acceptable where noted.
