Job Title
Senior Staff Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Lead customer-facing technical engagements to deploy and validate electronics thermal simulation solutions (Ansys Fluent/Icepak/Mechanical) at package, board, and system levels. Collaborate with product development and sales to translate customer requirements into workflow and product improvements.
Contribute to customer adoption, training, and technical content that improves simulation-driven product development and reduces design risk.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience guidance: 6+ years with an MS, 8+ years with a BS, or 3+ years with a PhD (PhD with 7+ years preferred); role also expects several years of customer-facing application engineering experience. See Education Requirements for degree details.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead technical engagement through the sales cycle: discovery, demos, and proofs of concept.
- Work directly with customers to define thermal management challenges and simulation requirements at package, board, and system levels.
- Deploy and integrate Ansys simulation tools (Fluent, Icepak, Mechanical) into customer design workflows.
- Test new tool releases on industrial thermal problems, document results, and produce application best practices.
- Partner with product teams to capture customer feedback and influence roadmap and feature priorities.
- Deliver training, consulting engagements, and technical presentations (onsite, remote, or at events).
- Author technical content for conferences, webinars, and marketing to support customer enablement and thought leadership.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills.
-
Must-have: At least 4 years in application engineering, customer support, or consulting roles working directly with customers on engineering software.
-
Must-have: Strong technical grounding in fluid mechanics, CFD, and thermodynamics with practical experience in electronics thermal management.
-
Must-have: Proficiency with Ansys tools (Fluent, Icepak, Mechanical) or equivalent experience with CAE/CAD/EDA/PLM platforms.
-
Must-have: Experience integrating simulation into customer workflows (beyond isolated analyses) at package/board/system level.
-
Must-have: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to present, train, and mentor customers and junior engineers.
-
Must-have: Willingness to travel domestically ~25% (up to 50% when required).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with multiphysics coupling (electro-thermal, thermo-mechanical) and testing new releases on industrial problems.
Education Requirements
MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years of relevant engineering software experience; or BS with 8+ years; or PhD with 3+ years (PhD with 7+ years preferred). Degrees and years are stated as the employer's guidance for typical qualifications.
