Senior Staff Application Engineer

Role Summary

Senior staff applications engineer in the HiRel product group supporting existing analog products and new product development for the space market. Work spans device characterization, documentation, customer support, and contribution to new product definitions.

Experience Level

Senior — requires approximately 7 to 10+ years of relevant experience in applications and/or systems engineering for analog IC development or circuit design.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities are split across lab characterization, documentation, customer support, and new product definition.

  • Perform device characterization and lab validation; prepare validation plans and reports (≈50% of time).
  • Produce and edit datasheets, application notes, technical briefs, and maintain accurate lab notes (≈20%).
  • Provide customer technical support, analyze field returns, and train field application engineers (≈20%).
  • Collaborate with marketing, design, and product teams to define and document new product requirements (≈10%).
  • Engage with customers and present at industry conventions as needed.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and eligibility; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • 7 to 10+ years in applications or systems engineering within analog IC development or circuit design.
  • Strong analog and mixed-signal design knowledge and lab troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient with electronic bench equipment: power supplies, function generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes.
  • Familiarity with schematic/layout tools and PCB layout concepts for switching power supplies (Altium preferred).
  • Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills; experience training others.
  • Understanding of industry-standard test methods for ICs and ability to document test procedures and results.
  • US citizenship or lawful permanent resident (green card) preferred due to time-sensitive needs and export-control considerations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience programming to automate lab equipment (Python; GPIB/USB communication). Java or C knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with PSpice/SPICE modeling, IBIS models, and familiarity with Verilog/FPGA work.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
