Job Title
Senior Specialist, FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, verify and debug FPGA-based and microcontroller-based systems for Electronic Safe and Arm Devices used in defense applications. Work with cross-functional hardware and firmware teams to deliver ASIC/FPGA designs that include sensor interfaces, A/D and D/A, communication protocols, state machines and timing chains.
Position is onsite in Cincinnati, OH on a 4/10 schedule (four 10-hour days per week).
Experience Level
Senior β expects substantial prior experience (see Education Requirements for specific experience equivalencies).
Responsibilities
Primary duties and day-to-day activities.
- Architect, design and implement FPGA logic using Verilog targeting Antifuse and enhanced Flash FPGAs.
- Develop and maintain embedded firmware (C) and, where applicable, C# microcontroller code.
- Perform SystemVerilog UVM-based verification and simulation of designs.
- Analyze requirements, define architecture, and debug FPGA, hardware, and microcontroller products and associated firmware.
- Perform functional analysis, performance profiling and troubleshooting in lab and target environments.
- Use lab tools (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG/ICE debuggers, protocol analyzers) for validation and debug.
- Participate in code reviews, unit testing, prototyping and product testing to improve quality and time-to-market.
- Work with version control systems and contribute to process and quality improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Verilog HDL experience for digital logic design; familiarity with VHDL is a plus.
- Embedded C programming experience, including algorithm development and optimized code for constrained systems.
- Practical experience with FPGA design flows and vendor toolchains; familiarity with QuestaSim is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with lab and debug equipment and hardware bring-up.
- Familiarity with design verification practices, simulation, and test methodologies.
- Experience using version control systems (SVN, Git, TFS).
Nice-to-have:
- SystemVerilog verification experience with UVM/OVM/VMM/AVM.
- C# development for enhanced Flash microcontrollers.
- Direct experience with Microsemi/Actel FPGA families.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or a Master's degree plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience; or 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
