Job Title

Senior Software Test Automation Engineer

Role Summary

As an Optical Product Test Engineer focused on software automation, you will design, implement, and run automated tests and frameworks to validate Layer 1 and Layer 2 optical networking systems and manufacturing test flows. You will work with hardware, firmware, and software teams to improve product reliability and manufacturing yield.

Experience Level

Senior; typically 4–8 years of experience in software testing and test automation for optical networking products.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include developing automated tests, validating hardware/software integration, and supporting manufacturing test systems.

  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated test cases and frameworks in Python.
  • Perform functional, regression, and performance testing for Layer 1 and Layer 2 systems.
  • Configure and operate traffic generators (e.g., IXIA) to simulate network environments and evaluate performance.
  • Validate hardware and software integration with optical interfaces, transceivers, and network switches.
  • Debug and reproduce issues in complex networking environments; collaborate with developers and hardware engineers to resolve defects.
  • Maintain test code and assets in version control systems (GitHub, Bitbucket, or SVN).
  • Define, create, and maintain manufacturing test scripts; manage manufacturing software change control processes.
  • Collaborate with IT and database teams to design scalable test data logging and analysis (SQL/NoSQL).
  • Document test cases, results, and defects in test management tools.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant experience. Nice-to-have items are noted.

  • 4–8 years of hands-on experience in software testing and test automation for optical networking products.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for test automation.
  • Good understanding of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking protocols.
  • Experience with traffic generators (IXIA), optical testing equipment, and network switches.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or ArgoCD.
  • Familiarity with Shell scripting for automation and environment setup.
  • Experience with hardware communication protocols: NI-VISA, SCPI, RS-232, TCP/IP.
  • Experience with test instruments: optical oscilloscopes, optical power meters, optical switches.
  • Database integration experience for test data logging and analysis (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Version control experience (GitHub, Bitbucket, or SVN).
  • Ability to collaborate with hardware, firmware, and manufacturing teams and to manage change control for manufacturing software.
  • Exposure to C# .NET and Windows Forms/WPF for UI validation or tooling is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. The role emphasizes degree-level background for automated test system development in electronics and optics manufacturing.
