Senior Software Engineer – Python Infrastructure

Role Summary

Join the Cambridge toolchain performance team to build and maintain developer infrastructure for compiler and toolchain testing, benchmarking, and CI/CD. The role focuses on Python-based infrastructure, hardware lab management, automation and performance tracking to support Arm's compiler engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Support and evolve the team's CI/CD, automation and benchmarking platforms.

  • Maintain a board farm of hardware devices used for validation and benchmarking.
  • Design, maintain and extend automated testing and benchmarking infrastructure.
  • Extend existing software or write integration "glue" between systems.
  • Debug issues across the stack, from data-visualisation tools to kernel crashes.
  • Provision and manage cloud infrastructure and related tooling.
  • Implement custom reporting, aggregation and result-tracking solutions.
  • Support developer teams' CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows.

Requirements

Key technical must-haves and desirable skills.

Must-have:

  • Advanced Python skills and experience modifying medium-to-large Python projects.
  • Practical software engineering experience working with CI and testing systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux development and administration via scripting/CLI.
  • Hands-on experience with physical or virtualised systems (development boards, servers, embedded platforms) including remote access methods such as serial consoles, network booting or BMCs.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with build automation tools (TeamCity, Jenkins).
  • Understanding of compiler/assembler/linker performance metrics.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining hardware/board or server farms, firmware and OS updates.
  • Practical knowledge of virtualisation, containerisation, simulation and emulation technologies.
  • Experience maintaining small lab setups (Raspberry Pi clusters, FPGA boards, etc.).
  • Familiarity with web frontend frameworks (Flask, HTML/CSS, React).
  • Experience leading projects to improve software efficiency and quality; performance tracking and visualisation skills.

Education Requirements

University degree ideally in computer science or a related STEM field is preferred; other backgrounds considered. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
