Senior Software Engineer in Test

Role Summary

Senior Software Engineer in Test on the Budapest SQA team responsible for planning, developing, debugging and automating tests for embedded wireless products, with a focus on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) features.

The role owns test strategy and automation for SiSDK and firmware, works with development teams across locations, and integrates test execution into CI/CD pipelines.

Experience Level

Senior - requires a minimum of 5 years professional experience in software testing, test automation, or software engineering.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing and maintaining automated tests, improving test coverage, and driving quality for embedded wireless features.

• Define test plans, strategy, and automation coverage for embedded wireless features (BLE-focused).
• Design, develop, and maintain Python/Pytest-based automated tests for functional and non-functional testing.
• Integrate and maintain automated tests within CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub actions or similar).
• Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., Cursor) to accelerate test development, debugging, and code analysis.
• Automate, monitor, and improve large-scale test execution and reliability (containerization, Docker, cloud compute).
• Investigate complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with developers to resolve defects.
• Communicate test results, coverage gaps, and quality risks to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with application engineers to validate customer use cases and ensure appropriate coverage on physical devices.
• Share technical knowledge and best practices with the team.

Must-have

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in software testing, test automation, or software engineering.
• Strong Python programming skills; experience writing, debugging, and maintaining complex test code and validating AI-generated code.
• Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (Pytest) and test design methodologies.
• Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or equivalent).
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Cursor or similar) in engineering workflows.
• Familiarity with Docker, SQL databases, Windows and Linux environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written/verbal English communication skills.

Nice-to-have

• Experience with embedded systems, firmware testing, or embedded C/C++ development.
• Knowledge of wireless protocols, particularly Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and automated testing on physical devices.
• Experience building or improving test automation frameworks and test infrastructure.
• Experience creating AI-assisted workflows or introducing AI-driven testing improvements.
• ISTQB certification.

Education Requirements

BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. ISTQB certification is listed as a plus.
