Senior Software Engineer, CUDA UMD - GPU Kernel Scheduling

Role Summary

Work on the CUDA Driver to improve GPU kernel scheduling and the CUDA programming model. The role sits on a systems software team responsible for APIs, drivers, and runtime components that enable general-purpose GPU computing for AI, scientific computing, and graphics workloads.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requests a minimum of 4 years of related development experience and targets experienced software engineers.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and ship features that improve GPU compute scheduling, CUDA programming models, and platform performance.

  • Architect and implement new features in the CUDA driver and runtime.
  • Coordinate and drive cross-team development efforts.
  • Define and improve CUDA APIs and programming models (for example, CUDA Graphs).
  • Explore and implement scheduling improvements for AI/ML workloads on GPUs.
  • Write maintainable, well-tested C/C++ code across multiple operating systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, practical experience, and communication ability; followed by preferred skills.

Must-have

  • Strong C and C++ programming skills.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related software development experience.
  • Experience driving projects across multiple teams and working with large codebases.
  • Knowledge of OS interfaces for threads, process control, and virtual memory.
  • Understanding of system-level architecture: interconnects, memory hierarchy, interrupts, and memory-mapped I/O.
  • Experience writing and debugging multithreaded programs.
  • Good written and presentation skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with parallel computing and CUDA programming or libraries.
  • Knowledge of memory coherence and consistency models.
  • Kernel-mode development experience and Linux systems software development.
  • Experience maintaining or extending programming models or language support.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation & Other Details

Base salary ranges (location- and level-dependent): Level 3: 152,000 USD - 241,500 USD; Level 4: 184,000 USD - 287,500 USD. Eligible for equity and benefits. Applications accepted through September 5, 2026.
