Job Title

Senior Software Engineer - Compilers (LLVM)

Role Summary

Work on LLVM compiler development for Arm, contributing upstream to LLVM projects to exploit Arm architectural features (for example SVE and SME). Analyse and improve application and benchmark performance on Arm hardware while collaborating with internal teams and the wider LLVM community.

No relocation package is available. If visa sponsorship is required, Arm will cover sponsorship costs for the employee only; fees for spouse/dependants are the candidate's responsibility.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical leadership across LLVM compiler development for Arm and upstream, shaping optimisation strategies and guiding technical decisions to maximise performance and long-term value.
  • Mentor engineers within the LLVM team and in the broader community.
  • Represent Arm in the LLVM ecosystem by leading upstream contributions and aligning with partners.
  • Partner with internal teams to define priorities, ensure technical alignment, and deliver integrated solutions that support Arm’s roadmap.
  • Drive process and quality improvements in development workflows, profiling methodologies, and performance benchmarking.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Excellent programming skills in C/C++.
  • Proven LLVM open-source community participation (code commits and reviews).
  • Hands-on experience analysing performance bottlenecks and system-level performance tuning.
  • Experience in low-level software or hardware development that requires interpreting computer architecture specifications (compilers, debuggers, models, etc.).
  • Proficiency in software development practices: coding, testing, debugging, and code review.
  • Effective communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving and mentoring ability.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Profile Guided Optimization (PGO).
  • Understanding of computer architecture.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), Linux performance tools, build systems, and CI.
