Job Title

Senior Software Engineer, Chips System Software

Role Summary

Design and implement chip-specific kernel drivers and embedded system software to enable NVIDIA chip platforms from pre-silicon modeling through production deployment. Work within the Chips System Software organization, collaborating closely with hardware, silicon, pre-silicon, and software teams.

Primary focus areas include Linux kernel development, core OS enablement, platform bring-up, and automation across simulation, FPGA, and silicon environments.

Experience Level

Senior level β€” the role expects an experienced engineer. The posting indicates 8+ years of relevant software development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include end-to-end technical ownership of system software and platform bring-up.

  • Design, develop, and verify features for next-generation chip architectures in collaboration with hardware teams.
  • Influence hardware and system software architecture via reviews and design specifications.
  • Bring up new platforms, products, and prototype systems with hardware, silicon, and pre-silicon teams.
  • Enable Linux and core OS software across simulation, emulation, FPGA, and silicon platforms.
  • Debug and resolve complex hardware/software integration issues across multiple stack layers.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience required for the role.

  • Minimum of 8+ years of relevant software development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with complex hardware and software system designs.
  • Strong C programming skills and experience with Linux kernel development and core OS software.
  • Experience developing and debugging Linux device drivers.
  • Strong system-level debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with computer architecture fundamentals: caches, buses, memory controllers, DMA, interrupts, and low-level hardware interactions.
  • Proven ability to independently drive projects from design through deployment with strong end-to-end ownership.

Nice-to-have

  • Deep expertise in Linux kernel internals and enabling Linux on pre-silicon and silicon platforms.
  • Experience with Buildroot and Linux distributions.
  • Contributions to Linux kernel or other open-source projects.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture, design, mentoring, or cross-functional project execution.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
