Senior SoC Platform Software Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Senior SoC Platform Software Engineer
Role Summary
Design, implement, and validate SoC platform software for Qualcomm IE-IOT SoC platforms targeting Linux and RTOS environments. Work spans drivers, middleware, boot/bring-up, system integration, debugging, and performance optimization for edge, IoT, industrial, and robotics applications.
Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and cross-functional teams to bring up platforms, diagnose system-level issues, and deliver stable production-ready software.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting indicates minimum professional experience starting at 1–2+ years depending on education; role expectations include independent system bring-up and cross-team coordination consistent with senior engineering responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include platform bring-up, integration, and validation across SW/FW/HW boundaries.
- Design and develop SoC platform software components (drivers, middleware, application-layer modules) for Linux and RTOS targets.
- Perform system bring-up from bootloader through kernel to application layer; coordinate initialization across bootloader, OS, and firmware.
- Integrate and validate software on IE-IOT SoC platforms and reference hardware; enable features and support board bring-up.
- Debug system-level failures (boot failures, crashes, hangs, performance regressions) and perform root-cause analysis across HW/FW/OS.
- Conduct performance profiling, memory footprint analysis, and feasibility studies to meet power, performance, and real-time requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, and present design and status updates to stakeholders.
- Perform code and design reviews to ensure reliability, power efficiency, and compliance with system requirements.
- Coordinate with internal and third-party partners during integration, bring-up, and validation activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Proficiency in low-level programming and scripting: C, C++, Python (or equivalent).
- Experience with system integration: integrating Linux BSP, RTOS firmware, and hardware components on ARM-based SoCs.
- Strong system-level debugging skills across hardware, firmware, and OS layers; experience analyzing logs, crash dumps, and traces.
- Experience with board bring-up, feature enablement, and system validation on embedded platforms.
- Familiarity with secure boot concepts and verified boot / chain-of-trust flows.
- Ability to use and improve debugging, logging, and diagnostic frameworks; support profiling and performance analysis.
- Effective written and verbal communication for technical documentation and cross-site collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience integrating Linux with RTOS or firmware in multi-core or heterogeneous systems.
- Practical knowledge of ARM architecture and SoC-level integration.
- Familiarity with JTAG, ETM, ftrace, kgdb, and similar debugging tools; experience analyzing core/crash dumps and reset logs.
- Experience with performance profiling tools and system-level optimization techniques.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams.
Education Requirements
Posting specifies: Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. The listing allows the stated degrees with experience: Bachelor's +2 years, Master’s +1 year, or PhD (with academic/work experience). Equivalent practical experience is permitted as described in the posting.
